CAT ISLAND

Categories: Creature Feature

Not too long ago, we pointed out this amazing village inhabited by foxes running wild and free, and this week, another location has caught our eye.

Tashirojima, a small island in Ishinomaka in Japan is the ultimate destination for cat lovers. Nicknamed “Cat Heaven Island”, it has a population of only 100 people and is overrun by cats. The cats were introduced to this little island to keep mice away from the silkworm farms but with these long closed, and many people moved away, the cats are left to have their own adventures.

Feeding and looking after the catsis thought to bring good luck and fishermen even believe that they can predict the weather! Be warned though, dogs are not welcome here!

If you like cats then you’ll be pleased to hear that we have plenty of Kigu moggies in our shop, from a cute tabby cat to a striking midnight cat.
